Girlfriend (and other Like Poems)

“At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet.”

She takes a sip
Of the word–
So as to not
Burn her tongue.

The idea of belonging
To someone
Still fresh off the kettle.

Another sip–
Cooler now.

The whisper
Of winter
Is in the air.
She can taste it,
But fails to care.

This bed is too small
For all of the promises
I intend to keep.

You’re butterfly to
Heartbeat’s hurricane, that roars
A resounding yes.

3 AM,
The true
Eleventh hour
Whence accidental
Love  Like
Takes root.

He must be special
To make you
Want to smile
And dance
And write
And sing.

3 AM,
Too early
To be writing
Love Like poems
Don’t you think?
