home, n.

(5) hugs and family and
warmth year-round but
not from the weather;
the seasons should number
and hills and trees and
(at appropriate times) green
should be visible on leaves that
only leave in winter I
smell dill and chicken and
on a snappy carrot

(8) my grandpa lived (for
a speck of time) in
Poland that land
is mine is
my house the place I
should have grown but
never saw grow (green leaves) this
is not MY home
it could have been
mine to
take now

(9) my home is
somewhere in a handful of
dust it does
not matter which grain or
which my came

About the Author ()

Melissa is a junior in CAS. She's definitely an English major, and (depending when you ask) minors in French and Anthropology. She's from the non-Amish part of Pennsylvania and enjoys piano, books, cynicism, and pink. When she grows up--many, many years in the future--she hopes to combine these interests and work as a book editor. If books are still a thing.
