If you’re aware of how large the world is and how diverse the world’s cultures are, you may be interested in authentically experiencing as many cultures as you can. If so, continue reading to discover how you can get started.
How To Experience Other Cultures:
Endeavor to make friends from different cultures:
Instead of only befriending individuals who come from the same culture as you do, make an effort to make friends from a variety of diverse cultures. As through friendship, you’ll get to learn about new customs, traditions, and foods. For example, if you make a friend who is proud of their Japanese heritage they may teach you about the importance of Japanese tea ceremonies and may cook you their favorite traditional dishes for you to try out. While if you make a friend who was born in India, they may invite you to an Indian festival such as Diwali which is known as the festival of lights.
One unique advantage of learning about different cultures through friendship is that you’ll get a realistic, honest view of each culture. As your friends will also tell you about the parts of their culture which they might struggle with. For example, a female friend may tell you about ingrained sexism that exists in their culture, which they are working to combat.
Book homestay experiences around the world:
Instead of staying at traditional hotels on your worldwide adventures, it’s a fun idea to book homestay experiences around the world. Which will allow you to befriend locals and to see what it would really be like to live in a specific country. As inspiration, you may be keen on the idea of staying in a farmhouse in Switzerland or in a student’s apartment in South Korea. One of the advantages of staying at homestays is that your hosts may be able to give you tips on the best eateries and spots to visit, which are off the beaten tourist track. For example, if you book a homestay experience in Rome, your hosts may take you to a mom-and-pop-style pizzeria that is popular with locals.
Volunteer to teach migrants and refugees English:
Another way to learn about far-flung countries and cultures is to volunteer to help recent migrants and refugees to settle into your city. You may even want to teach migrants English as a way of getting to know an individual or a family from another culture. As each year migrants from around the world will arrive in your city, who will be appreciative of having a new friend to talk to. Especially as many migrants don’t know many people in their new home city after leaving the majority of their friends and family members in their country of origin.
So if you want to immerse yourself in a wide variety of diverse cultures in order to learn more about the world and to broaden your perspective, it’s well worth using the tips listed above to get started! If in doubt, try to make new friends from other cultures.
