The OkStupid Scandal:
In the United Kingdom, a forum was set up named Love in a Cold Climate, which was supposed to attract individuals who identified themselves as anti-maskers and were interested in meeting up for in-person dates. Despite the restrictions in the United Kingdom which prohibited individuals from socializing with others outside of their households.
The creator of the forum Toby Young claimed that he thought it would be helpful for anti-maskers to be able to find dates in an environment, where there was no uncertainty as no one would have to fear being judged for breaking lockdown restrictions and social distancing restrictions. In a televised interview, Young claimed that he was inspired to launch Love in a Cold Climate when an individual emailed him telling him that they would love to go on dates with other Coroanvirus skeptics who didn’t believe that dating without a mask would be dangerous. As Young is a self-confessed Covid-19 skeptic, he decided to take their idea from a concept into a reality.
However, as news of Young’s anti-masker dating forum went viral, critics of Love in a Cold Climate made fun of it calling it OkStupid. Due to its members’ dangerous beliefs and willingness to meet strangers for dates during quarantine, without wearing masks and taking basic social distancing procedures.
Despite the backlash against Love in a Cold Climate, it wasn’t long till the forum had attracted 60 listings from men and women who were willing to meet up for in-person dates. An example, of which included a divorce who didn’t believe in the danger of the Coronavirus and believed that it was a conspiracy that was being used to control British citizens.
Another single who posted a listing for dates who described himself as a good-looking man told would-be daters that he would be willing to kiss women between the ages of 35-50, without a mask. Which suggested that he was interested in going on numerous dates with different women, while he was meant to be at home social distancing.
Young believes that the popularity of Love in a Cold Climate proved that there are way more people in the United Kingdom who are skeptics of Coronavirus, the United Kingdom’s lockdowns, and social distancing regulations. He even revealed that despite the forum attracting a lot of flack from the general public, the negative public attention had actually raised awareness of Love in a Cold Climate and had actually increased the number of listings that were posted on the dating forum.
So if you have heard of OkStupid, hopefully, you now feel up to date with the events of the OkStupid scandal, which started when Toby Young decided to launch an anti-social distancing dating forum.
